Being Mindful as a Parent: Appreciate Small Details

I was reminded today of a resolution I made at the start of the year but haven’t quite succeeded in–to be more mindful. I have this article from Kevin MD to thank: “Finding mindfulness in unexpected places.” Being mindful as a parent is very important, in my opinion.

Ever since I had my first child, I have realized how valuable every moment of every day is. However, having a lot of responsibilities to fulfill on a daily basis, most days end with me barely noticing it. Yes, I effectively do my duties and go about my daily routine, but I fail to see the details of each day that passes–I fail to notice what’s unfolding in the lives of my children. Being mindful as a parent means appreciating small details.

I don’t want to wake up one day with my children already leaving home and realize that I barely have memories of them growing up–that I haven’t really seen them grow. Time to get back to working on being a more mindful mommy.
