Do You Allow Your Children To Use Computers?

I read a post by one mother today who was told by her children’s teachers that she should let her children spend more time on the computer. In her post called “Am I Disadvantaging My Children,” she expresses her opposition to the suggestion of her kids’ teachers and also made clear that she would much rather give her children as little exposure to computers as possible.

While I believe that premature introduction and overuse of technology can be damaging to young children, I think that giving them very little chance to get to know computers can make things difficult for them in the future. It cannot be denied that computers are very important tools in our society, and I don’t think that is going to change in the future.

Just like other tools for learning, a computer is a tool. I believe that it is only right that I give my children the chance to maximize their learning potentials. If used correctly, I believe that computers can greatly enhance and support the learning process for kids–make it more exciting and wide-reaching.

I think that as long as we know how to appropriately regulate our children’s use of computers, they will be just fine.

How about you? What are your thoughts on this matter?
