I found this interesting little tidbit of information over at a blog called That The Bones You Have Crushed May Thrill. I thought it was pretty cool to know this so I thought I would share it.
“Padre Pio, or rather St Pio of Pietrelcina, ‘is one of only two saints who were priests living after the Second Vatican Council; the other being Saint Josemaria Escriva.
Both priests had permission from the Pope to offer the Traditional Latin Mass without any of the liturgical reforms that stemmed from the Council.’” – “Did You Know?”
The fact that Saint Josemaria Escriva and Saint Pio had special permission from the Pope at the time to do as they pleased and disregard the Council’s reuling is pretty special. Saint Josemaria Escriva is fairly well known, but Saint Pio is not remembered too often. September 23rd is his feast day, and he is the patron saint of confessors.
