I was very blessed to hear the Holy Father’s message yesterday. Pope Francis reflected on the Ascension and gave a very inspiring message about the role of Jesus as mankind’s defender and most gracious advocate. The work of Jesus did not end when he died on the cross to take the punishment that we deserved. His work for humanity is still going on even to this day.
When Jesus ascended to heaven, he took his place at the side of his Father, not to take a rest from his duties for humanity, not to go on a vacation, but to serve as our advocate before the Father. Even after he gave up his life for us, Jesus still continues to plead our case–to defend us all as innocent by virtue of his blood. He faces the Father on a daily basis and proceeds to apply on our behalf the sufficiency of his own merit to cover the unintentional blemishes and fleshly weaknesses that we all have. What a wonderful Savior we have!
“And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” (1 John 2:1)
