Resisting Temptation is Difficult Alone

This morning I stumbled into a wonderful reading titled, “How Is Your Faith?” It not only lead me evaluate my faith in God, but also made me reflect upon the cunning ways of the devil to lure me into sin.

Satan is the supreme “tempter.” He has been bringing temptation to mankind since the creation of the earth and our first parents–Adam and Eve. Although our war with sin and the devil has already been won through the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Satan is still trying his best to deprive and blind us of the gift of salvation.

Being the deceitful being that he is, he knows each person’s weaknesses–what would most likely cause you and me to sin. And with our corrupted human nature, we are bound to fall into his trap if we try to resist him on our own. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we are more than able to shun whatever temptation the devil sends our way.

As the Apostle Paul says in Galatians 5:16, “Live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.”
