I believe that every family abides by some form of rules. While we may not have the same set of “family rules,” I believe that all parents acknowledge just how important they are. There are a host of reasons why we impose family rules, but commonly we do so for the following reasons:
- To teach kids right from wrong.
- To enhance discipline and responsibility among our children.
- To make our family life more peaceful.
Rules are good and certainly beneficial, but the problem is abiding by them is not always easy–especially when they are too rigid or too difficult to follow. So we need to be careful when creating rules for everyone in the family to follow. As for me, I believe that the most important thing we need to remember as parents when developing rules is to involve everyone in the family. Getting children on board in rule-setting makes it easier for them to understand, accept and follow the rules.
