Lessons From Dad: Father’s Day

With Father’s Day nearing, many bloggers are writing a piece to pay tribute to their dads. Being a daddy’s girl myself, I could not pass up on an opportunity to talk about how great my dad is. Reading the article “Things My Father Taught Me” by Grace Bonney inspired me to honor my dad by sharing the most important lessons from dad I have received.

1. Never give up because anything worthwhile requires patience, discipline and determination.

2. It is okay to ask for help from others.

3. No relationship should be more important than my relationship with God.

4. Money is not happiness.

5. Time spent with family is never wasted time.

How about you? What are the biggest lessons from Dad you can recall?

A dad is someone who
wants to catch you before you fall
but instead picks you up,
brushes you off,
and lets you try again.
A dad is someone who
wants to keep you from making mistakes
but instead lets you find your own way,
even though his heart breaks in silence
when you get hurt.
A dad is someone who
holds you when you cry,
scolds you when you break the rules,
shines with pride when you succeed,
and has faith in you even when you fail.

Parental Leave: More Dad’s are Taking Time Off When Kids are Born

We are used to living in a world where a woman has a child and she goes on maternity leave. The world has been slowly changing its ways though and parental leave has become more common. Parental leave can be taken by a mother or father. The number of fathers going on parental leave is growing and I think this is tremendous. This is a societal norm that is slowly changing, and I think it is for the better.
