Parenting Debate: Is There Really A Dominant Parent?

It can be tempting to claim the “dominant parent” title. This term that I was previously unaware of apparently means being the one that spends more time with the kids and attending to most of their needs. As I think of my husband’s hard work he does for the family, and the effort he exerts in making sure he is as involved as he can be in raising our children; I just could not do it.

I am a firm believer in co-parenting–of parents negotiating their child-rearing beliefs and their day-to-day shared parenting responsibilities. I would like to think that my husband and I share the same amount of parenting duties. Although we care for our children in different ways, in no way is one doing more or less than the other. Hence, no one should have the right to label themselves as the dominant parent.
