Reading a blog post this morning titled, Have Faith In God reminded me of one of my favorite stories in the New Testament–Jesus Christ calming the storm in the sea of Galilee. If you haven’t read it yet, it is found in the Gospel of Mark Chapter 4 Verses 35-41.
In the story, Jesus and his disciples were sailing to the eastern shore of the Sea of Galilee when suddenly there arose a great storm. When the disciples turned to Jesus, they saw him sleeping soundly by the stern of the ship. Terrified, the disciples awakened him: “Master, carest thou not that we perish?” Calmly, Jesus answered: “Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?” Then, he got up and commanded the storm: “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
Reflecting upon this story makes me realize what a peaceful life it would be if we all learned to put our faith in God. A lot of us have hearts and minds filled with worries of tomorrow and of things to come. And often, we feel helpless whenever we find ourselves in one of life’s storms. We forget that our Father is the creator of the entire universe and he has our best interest at heart.
Our God will never leave any of us stranded in times of need. Although we may not always understand how he will deliver us from our tough spots, he certainly will. When we have faith in he who owns our lives, we can live in total peace knowing who he is. We can have joy and peace and look forward to how is going to come through for us!
