“Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4) These are the words of our savior Jesus Christ when he was tempted by the devil to turn stones into bread during his 40 days of fasting and praying in the wilderness. This verse came to my mind as I was reading a very uplifting post earlier today: “The 20 Verses You Love Most: #9 Comfort Food.” The w0rd of God is food for the soul.
Just as our physical body needs food for its growth and nourishment, we need God’s word for the nourishment of our soul–our spirit. It is only through a regular consumption of this soul food that we will be able to grow spiritually. The Bible’s has all we need to help us keep our spiritual lives strong and healthy–from promises and words of comfort, to directions and instructions.
May we all find ourselves saying these words about the Bible, “Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart…” Jeremiah 15:16 The word of God is food for the soul, and it is also a gift so treat it that way.
