As a child, I remember how I disliked being disciplined by my parents. I guess everyone feels that way. As I grew older and eventually had children of my own, I came to understand little by little the concept of discipline. While I am no longer subjected to the discipline of my folks, a post I read this morning reminded me that I will always be subjected to God’s Loving Discipline.
Similar to the discipline of our parents and our own discipline to our children, the Lord’s discipline is a response of his love for us and his desire for each of us to walk in the right path–the path of light. It may hurt us, but it sure is not born out of plain anger or done in an effort to merely punish us. More importantly, being disciplined by God does not indicate that God has withdrawn his love; instead, it affirms it.
As Hebrews 12:6 says, “For whom the Lord loves He disciplines, and He scourges every son whom He receives.”
